What are Verifiable Claims?
Cryptographically Verifiable Statements
Users can make assertions about other entities, data, or about themselves. This data class is often referred to as attestations, and encompasses technical standards like W3C Verifiable Credentials.
Claim Frameworks
Frameworks that facilitate claims include features such as tamper-evident cryptographic signatures, public schema registries, presentation and validation formats, transparent provenance, and portability. This is because the credibility of a claim should only hinge on the reputation of the entity making it, not on the framework that was used to create it.
Gold-Standard Data Provenance
As a shared data network designed specifically for verifiable data at scale, Ceramic provides the common characteristics of verifiable claims out-of-the-box, from cryptographically signed data events, to gold-standard data provenance and lineage specifications.

Transparent Provenance
Like all data on Ceramic, assertions and claims can only be created and controlled by one account using a familiar “Sign in With Ethereum” authentication flow.
Cryptographically Signed Events
Commits within a data stream on Ceramic are cryptographically signed by the authenticated controller, ensuring each immutable data event can be verifiably linked to the creator’s account.
Commits Are Immutable Snapshots
Each commit within a data stream is immutable once created, allowing updates to be made to the current “state” with an immutable log of the data’s lineage.
ComposeDB as a Public Schema Registry
Once deployed to the Ceramic Network, data models on ComposeDB become immutable, public schema that any network participants can write to or read from, similar to an on-chain schema registry or registries used for W3C Verifiable Credentials.
